West Valley, AZ (July 15, 2020) – West Valley Arts Council (WVAC) is proud to announce that Michael Denson, a gifted artist and passionate connector of the arts, is the new Arts HQ Gallery Director!
Denson’s boundless experience as an artist, leader, teacher, and visionary in non-profit organizations and community arts within the Valley will revitalize and strengthen the connections and collaborations within the West Valley communities WVA is known for. Although Denson is a photographer by trade, his passion lies in mixed media and large installation art. “Whether a small and intimate painting or a large experiential piece, art has a way of pulling you into something deeper, something beautiful and transformative. This is the energy that I hope to bring to the West Valley. I’m excited to help offer innovative and diverse opportunities for artists, collaborators, art supporters, and community members, creating a holistic and thriving arts culture within the West Valley,” Denson stated.
Denson’s commitment to fostering positive conversation and engagement in the community through creativity and artistic expression gives him the ability to fulfill this role and inspire innovation, empathy, and inclusivity. Kathy Knecht, Board Chair, said,
“We are excited about Michael’s level of experience and expertise. Like everyone else, we’re navigating our new normal. And as we bring new blood and fresh eyes to the West Valley Arts Council, we are better able to bring unique and fulfilling experiences to our entire West Valley community.”

About Michael Denson
Michael Denson earned his Master of Arts in Innovation and Leadership from Kilns College and his Bachelor of Arts in Photography from The College of Santa Fe. Michael has over 10 years of combined experience in gallery operations and as leader and implementer of innovative programs. He honed his skills and knowledge through his work for The Rag Collection and Food for the Hungry, Valley non-profit organizations serving the youth, and the marginalized and disadvantaged.
He is also a perpetually optimistic, captivating, and creative planner, educator, photographer, and professional mixed media artist. Originally from Detroit, MI and now living in Glendale, AZ, Michael’s goal as the Arts HQ Gallery Director is to widen the opportunities, strengthen existing collaborations, build new partnerships, and enhance the culture of cities and communities in the West Valley.
